Round 6 Preview: MUWFC vs. West Adelaide

Round 6 of the 2018 WNPL SA season sees arguably the biggest clash of the season so far, with MUWFC facing last seasons Minor Premiers, West Adelaide, at the VALO Football Centre, with the winner of this game possibly going outright top, depending on other results.

MUWFC are coming off a 5-1 drubbing of a Salisbury Inter team keen on showing off new signing Adriana Jones on Easter Thursday.

Chrissy Panagaris continued her rich vein of goalscoring, bagging another 2 goals to take her outright top of the WNPL Golden Boot charts with 7 goals from 5 games this season, and now 26 from her last 27 WNPL games, by far the best goalscoring form over that period.
Nicole Calder finally got her first WNPL goal in the very first minute from a set piece, with a bullet header into the top corner, leaving Inter custodian Sian McLaren with no chance.
Racheal Quigley also netted again to take her tally to 6 goals from 5 games this campaign.
Stella Rigon capped off last weeks victory with a late goal of her own, her first in MUWFC colours, with a delicious right-footed volley from a pinpoint Chrissy Panagaris cross.

This is certainly a game you don’t want to miss, with West Adelaide currently sitting top, while MUWFC are looking like they’re just starting to hit their straps, and wanting to take that top spot from West Adelaide tonight.

MUWFC’s WNPL Reserves are also in action tonight against West Adelaide, with a similar situation as the WNPL teams. Whoever wins this game, will go to outright top on the table after 6 Rounds.

Our Reserves have also come off a win against Salisbury Inter, just 48 hours ago, however that game wasn’t as 1 sided on the scoreboard as the WNPL match was.
Monica Brown got the scoring underway in the 16th minute to put MUWFC ahead 1-0, and that is how the score stayed until the final whistle.
Chanel Todino, who came down from the WNPL team and gained a valuable 90 minutes under her belt, tried everything to add to the score, but the woodwork wasn’t on her side on the night, hitting the post, then the crossbar. With the form and positions that Todino is getting into, a big game and some big goals can’t be far away for her.
The 1-0 scoreline doesn’t do justice to the performance that the Reserves girls put in on Wednesday night. A very well structured and disciplined performance, which, with a bit more luck, could have easily turned into a 4 or 5 nil win.
A performance like that against West Adelaide tonight will ensure that this will be an extremely high quality game that you don’t want to miss.
