Round 8 of the South Australian WNPL sees MUWFC take on 4th placed Adelaide University away at West Beach, as we move into the second round of games against everyone.
We’re now officially a third of the way through the regular season, with the WNPL team sitting in 3rd position on the table, 4 points behind current League leaders Adelaide City, but comfortably inside the top 4, with a 6 point cushion to 5th placed FFSA NTC.
Last week saw MUWFC take on the FFSA NTC team, who are exceeding everyone’s expectations so far this season, with most fans expecting a tough game, but very hopeful of bringing home 3 points.
Stella Rigon opened the scoring in the 21st minute for her 2nd goal in 3 weeks, before the NTC side equalised right on the stroke of Half Time.
The 2nd Half was a tight affair, with MUWFC pushing hard for the go-ahead goal, which came in the form of the ever dangerous Chrissy Panagaris in the 83rd minute.
But, as the old saying goes, “you’re at your most vulnerable just after you’ve scored”, and the FFSA NTC side took advantage of that vulnerability and equalised again, less than 60 seconds later.
Coach Marie Spagnoletti will be hoping her troops can bounce back from last weeks disappointing 2-2 draw, and hopefully re-create the Round 1 performance when we last played Adelaide University, which resulted in a 4-1 win back at the start of March.
MUWFC’s WNPL Reserves had a 4-2 win over the FFSA U15 Girls last Friday night, with Roxy Dodd continuing her goalscoring form with a double and pushing hard for a WNPL start.
This Sunday’s clash against Adelaide University is shaping up to be a massive fixture in the WNPL Reserves season with how close the Top 4 is.
A win against the Blacks could potentially see MUWFC go to the Top of the WNPL Reserves ladder, however a loss could see us drop as low as 4th.
This is certainly a game that you don’t want to miss, so get along to the University Grounds on Mackinnon Parade, North Adelaide on Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm and help push the Reserves girls to a win.
