Cup Preview: Sunday 13th May 2018

With MUWFC’s WNPL and WNPL Reserves teams both drawing a “Bye” in the Cup, it’s time to have a look at the other MUWFC teams still in the Cup competition.

Division 1 vs Stirling Districts This game has the tag of “Match of the Round” in terms of the Women’s Division 1/2/3 Cup. Our Division 1 team take on a strong Stirling Districts team that has come down to Division 1 from the State League last season, and who currently sit 2nd in the League standings. We faced Stirling in the League back on April 22 at home, with that match ending in an entertaining and end to end 0-0 draw, with both teams missing a penalty in a match that could easily have had 5 or 6 goals if not for some outstanding defending from both sides. Expect this to be as entertaining as the last match between the 2 was, as coach Leo Cappelluti will be hoping his side can put out the same performance as 3 weeks ago, but this time take the win. And with a win in this game, knock out one of the real threats of the competition. 🏆 Division 1/2/3 Cup 📅 Sunday 13th May 2018 🏟 Lindblom Park, Pooraka 🕧 12:30pm

Division 4 vs Pembroke Old Scholars Our Division 4 team travel to Adelaide to face Collegiate side Pembroke Old Scholars, who currently sit 2nd in the historically strong Women’s Collegiate League. Coach Ian Davis has struggled with consistency in the League this season with a number of players to choose from, forcing weekly rotations and a lack of a consistent 16 players. However when this side is firing on all cylinders, they look like one of the strongest teams in this Cup competition. Last weeks 6-0 demolition of Mount Barker United will do wonders for confidence heading into a tough Cup game, and that 6-0 win could have easily been a 10+ goal win if not for some more ruthlessness in front of goal. 🏆 Division 4/5/6/Collegiate Cup 📅 Sunday 13th May 2018 🏟 Park 17, Adelaide 🕥 10:30am

Under 17 vs Adelaide University Brenton Loveridge’s Under 17 Girls will face Adelaide University at Lindblom Park for the 2nd time in 2 weeks after narrowly losing 3-2 last week in the League. Similar to our Division 4 team, the Under 17s have also struggled for consistency, only having played 4 of the first 6 Rounds, however this is due to a number of forced weeks off with other clubs forfeiting and a very untimely “Bye” in the League. Of the 4 games played so far, the girls have had 2 big wins (9-1 vs West Adelaide and 8-0 vs Modbury Jets) mixed with two narrow 1 goal losses. We’re all hoping that this will be another win for this team of talented girls and that they can make a real push for the Cup. 🏆 Under 17 Girls Cup 📅 Sunday 13th May 2018 🏟 Lindblom Park, Pooraka 🕥 10:30am

Under 15 Our Under 15 girls have the luxury of getting the only “Bye” in this stage of the Cup competition, due to their original opponents pulling their team out of the whole season. After a 4-0 win over Salisbury Inter Blue in the last Round, coach Zoe Hammond will be ecstatic with a free run through to the Quarter Finals.
