Reserves Cup Semi Final Preview: Adelaide Comets vs. MUWFC
Women’s Premier & State Reserves Cup Semi Final Preview
Tonight sees the first chance for any women’s club to make a Final in 2018, with the Premier & State Cup Semi Final being played at VALO Football Centre – The Parks.
Our MUWFC girls take on State League Reserves side Adelaide Comets in what will be an interesting match to see how the 2nd placed State League Reserves side compare to our girls who sit 1st in the WNPL Reserves.
Comets are having a good State League Reserves season, having only lost 2 games and managing to hold their League leaders Campbelltown to a draw last week. In the Cup, Comets, along with MUWFC, had a “bye” in the Round of 16 stage, and went straight through to the Quarter Final. That Quarter Final match-up saw them take on NPL Reserves side Salisbury Inter, who they managed to beat in a dreaded penalty shootout.
MUWFC are having an outstanding WNPL Reserves season, sitting 1st and still having not lost a game in 2018. Last week’s League match saw a 2-2 draw with the FFSA U15 Girls team, in which we scored 2 goals in the last 5 minutes to show real grit and determination and the true Metro “Never Give Up” attitude. In the Cup, MUWFC were the same as Comets in the Round of 16, being drawn with a “bye”, and going straight into the Quarter Final. And what a Quarter Final it was. Facing old enemy Adelaide City on the larger pitch over at T.K. Shutter Reserve, it was a pulsating match, which saw Monica Brown score the games only goal late on in the 85th minute.
With a spot in the Final up for grabs against the winner of the West Adelaide vs Adelaide University game, both teams will leave it all out on the pitch in an effort to be the first team into the 2018 Premier & State Reserves Cup Final!
