Round 10 Preview: Cumberland vs. MUWFC

Round 10 Preview

Round 10 of the WNPL SA sees MUWFC travel to Adelaide Shores Football Centre at West Beach to take on Cumberland United in the 2nd clash between the two for 2018.

The last match between these 2 clubs ended in a 0-0 stalemate back in Round 3 also at West Beach, which saw MUWFC dominate possession for the 90 minutes but unable to break through a resolute Cumberland defence. With MUWFC looking to take top spot from West Adelaide this weekend (who play Adelaide City at 8:00pm also at West Beach), coach Marie Spagnoletti will be expecting no less than maximum points. However, 3 points for MUWFC certainly isn’t a given, regardless of the contrasting ladder positions (MUWFC 3rd with 20 points, Cumberland 7th with 6 points). Cumberland have shown to be able to defend exceptionally well, grinding out draws against both MUWFC and Adelaide University, while, although they’ve lost to current League leaders West Adelaide twice, both were only marginal 1 goal losses.

MUWFC are coming off an outstanding win against arch rivals Adelaide City last week, which saw the gap at the top of the WNPL table close to just 1 point, while Cumberland narrowly lost to Salisbury Inter courtesy of a stoppage time winner in the 2nd half.

Having already being held to a draw by Cumberland this season, MUWFC will be looking to make sure that all 3 points come back to Lindblom Park, and depending on other results, top spot on the WNPL ladder might also be headed to Pooraka.

Expect MUWFC to once again dominate possession and field position for the majority of the 90 minutes while Cumberland are likely to park the proverbial bus and look to attack on the counter. However, the weather conditions might have a say in how this game pans out, with wet and windy conditions expected.
