Round 13 Preview: Salisbury Inter vs. MUWFC

Round 13 Preview

After an extended 10 day break since our last game against FFSA NTC, we take on northern rivals Salisbury Inter in Round 13 of the WNPL tonight.

Our Round 12 game was played last Tuesday night on May 22, due to the NTC Championships being held, which resulted in a convincing 4-0 win to MUWFC, with the goals being shared between Racheal Quigley, Lauren Steer, Captain Ebony Kyriacou and competition leading goalscorer Chrissy Panagaris.

Salisbury Inter took on West Adelaide last week, and to many peoples surprise, managed to hold them to a 0-0 draw. That result was great for MUWFC, meaning that we now hold a 3 point gap over West Adelaide, who drop to 3rd, however it also shows that Inter will be no easy game.

Vanessa Reed makes her way back into the squad this week after an unfortunate injury while serving suspension. Shelly Kuhar will be looking to continue her outstanding form this season, which if you ask many MUWFC supporters, will see her right up there in the competition Best and Fairest standings at the end of the season. Meanwhile, skipper Ebony Kyriacou will be looking to continue her goalscoring form having scored 2 goals in her last 2 matches from set pieces. Reserves midfielder Taylor Fiorita makes her way into the senior squad for the first time tonight, and if given the opportunity off the bench, will look to show her skills on the ball. The experience of WNPL football will only serve her well in the future.

Inter will rue the loss of W-League player Adriana Jones, who picked up her 5th yellow card of the season against West Adelaide last week, as she becomes the first player in the WNPL this season to be suspended due to an accumulation of cautions. However, MUWFC’s defence will be more than happy that the slippery Jones won’t be on the park tonight, as she can certainly cause some headaches for any defence.

With only the 3 points separating the top 3 positions, every game is crucial to keep our position on top of the WNPL ladder, and MUWFC coaches and fans alike will be wanting no less than 3 points.

MUWFC’s Reserves also face Salisbury Inter tonight, and will be looking to keep a tight grip on top spot with West Adelaide just 1 point behind.

Captain Jess Walkden returns from a week off, and with Reserves leading goalscorer Roxy Dodd being unavailable tonight, the likes of Stefany Scriva, Monica Brown, Dani Loveridge and Alex Belletti will all be looking to make their mark on the game with goals. 14 year old Bonnie Dodds has also been included in the Reserves squad for the first time tonight and will be itching for some debut minutes off the bench, in what will be an exciting night for one of MUWFC’s most promising juniors.
