Round 14 Preview: MUWFC vs. West Adelaide

Round 14 of the 2018 WNPL season sees Mens NPL club MetroStars welcome MUWFC to play at TK Shutter Reserve for the first time ever in a League game in an historic NPL Double Header against West Adelaide.

MUWFC’s last League game was back on Friday June 1, which was a massive 5-0 win over Salisbury Inter, with competition leading goalscorer Chrissy Panagaris netting another 3 goals, with Racheal Quigley and Stella Rigon both chiming in with a goal each.

Between our last League game and now, we were unfortunately knocked out of the Women’s Premier and State Cup competition by Adelaide City, losing that game 2-0. Coach Marie Spagnoletti will be hoping the girls can bounce back quickly after last weeks hiccup with a win this week.

The last time we faced West Adelaide ended in a 2-1 win back at the start of April, with Vanessa Reed scoring right on half time and Shelly Kuhar netting an outrageous winner.

This game is the true definition of a “6 pointer” with the result having massive implications on where the teams will finish. A MUWFC win would put us 8 points ahead of the 3rd placed West Adelaide, almost guaranteeing a Top 2 finish, meanwhile a West Adelaide win would bring them back to within 2 points of MUWFC, which would throw the race for the Premiership wide open.

An exciting day of football is expected at TK Shutter Reserve, and MUWFC fans will be hoping that both Metro United and MetroStars can take home 3 points and make it a great day for all Metro fans!

For those unable to make it to the ground on the day, FFSA will be live streaming both games on their Facebook page, as well as on their YouTube channel.

In Reserves news, it is a similar situation to the First Team, in that Sunday’s game at Lindblom Park is a true 6 pointer. A win for MUWFC would see us move 6 points clear of West Adelaide, who currently sit 2nd, while a loss would see West Adelaide take back 1st spot from us on goal difference. After successfully knocking Adelaide City out in the Women’s Premier and State Reserves Cup last week, coach Marcelo Vilches will be looking to keep the pressure on everyone else with another win to keep the Reserves undefeated season intact.
