Round 15 Preview – MUWFC vs. Adelaide Comets

MUWFC are at our home away from home in Round 15 of the WNPL, as we face Adelaide Comets in an NPL/WNPL Double Header with MetroStars at T.K Shutter Reserve on Saturday.

This is a massive game for both MetroStars and our MUWFC ladies, with only 8 games remaining in the NPL, and 7 games remaining in the WNPL, both sides will be looking to claim all 3 points on offer to really consolidate their positions on the ladder, and make a serious push for silverware.

MUWFC have had a very up and down last 4 WNPL matches since our last visit to T.K Shutter Reserve back on May 11, with 1 win, a draw and 2 losses, including a heavy 0-6 loss to WNPL leaders Adelaide City. However last week’s 3-0 win in the Cup competition against Fulham will have been a great lead in to this week’s crucial match.

MUWFC have also had an absolute hell of a run with injuries, with a number of players having been unavailable for selection including Lauren Steer and Chanel Todino, who are both out for the season with ACL injuries, while Laura Stockdale, Ness Reed, Olivia Beer, Hunter Strudwick and Kristy Moore have all been unavailable at different stages.

However the injuries in the squad have allowed for MUWFC coach Tony Scalzi to expose some of the club’s future stars to the pace and quality of WNPL football, including young gun Michaela Hadaj, while the likes of Bonnie Dodds, Annie Green, Amber-May Smith and Jess Signoriello have all stepped up both at training, and in games when required. Georgie Henderson has had a massive impact in changing the dynamic of the team, and is now a integral part of the midfield. While Olivia Bunge, who is the usual MUWFC Division 1 goalkeeper, has stepped up massively in the absence of Strudwick and Beer and performed extremely well in the WNPL.

Although MUWFC have had so many injuries, the side has performed well and is still well in contention for Finals, currently sitting 4th on the WNPL table, but only 2 points behind Salisbury Inter in 3rd.

With the WNPL match being the main game of the day at T.K Shutter Reserve, make sure you head on down early from 5:00pm and support MetroStars in the NPL as they look to make a charge to the top of the ladder, chasing Adelaide Blue Eagles and Campbelltown City.
