Round 17 Preview: FFSA NTC vs. MUWFC
Round 17 Preview
Tonight sees us face the FFSA NTC squad for the final time in the regular season in Round 17 of the 2018 FFSA WNPL, with both teams locked in separate battles.
MUWFC had a wonderful night out last week, absolutely demolishing the cellar-dwellers Fulham 9-0, although it could have been a lot worse for Fulham, had MUWFC been clinical in front of goal. Chrissy Panagaris continued her standout season, netting another 4 goals to give her 26 goals from 16 games this season. That is 14 more goals than any other WNPL player has scored in 2018. Racheal Quigley bagged 2 for herself, while Shelly Kuhar kept up her outstanding form with another goal of her own. Ebony Kyriacou and Lauren Steer kept their personal goalscoring duel going strong with a goal each to round out the 9-0 win.
The FFSA NTC squad had a strong 2-1 win last week over Salisbury Inter and now look the most likely to claim the last Finals spot and finish 4th.
The last time we faced the NTC resulted in a 4-0 win, and coach Marie Spagnoletti will be hoping that her team can produce more of the same, and keep a tight grip on that top spot.
With Adelaide City only a point behind in 2nd, any slip up would see us drop into 2nd, so 3 points is a must! Meanwhile, if the FFSA NTC squad want to make Finals for the first time, they also need to keep accumulating points. An intriguing game for sure.
In the Reserves, our girls are still undefeated heading into Round 17. The girls will be looking to keep that strong streak going after also having a big win over Fulham, not quite matching the First Team’s score of 9-0, but still managing to put 8 past the hapless Fulham. Lauren Steer, Bianca Contestabile and Taylor Fiorita all bagged 2 goals each, while Roxy Dodd and Matika Hilliard-Faulkner also put the ball in the back of the net. A special mention must go out to Zoe Hammond, who managed to produce an absolute clinic in how to take corners, with a lazy 7 assists out of those 8 goals. Our girls will be hoping to keep a 4 point gap on top of the table when they take on the FFSA U15 Girls, straight after the WNPL game on Friday night.
Dress warm for what will be a chilly night at The Parks, as we look to take full points from the night!
