Round 20 Preview – MUWFC vs. Adelaide City

The penultimate round of the 2019 regular season is upon us, as we face old rivals Adelaide City in a double header with MetroStars at T.K Shutter Reserve.

Adelaide City have all but wrapped up the first piece of major silverware as Premiers with 2 games to go, as they lead 2nd placed West Adelaide by 6 points with a goal difference of +50 over the Blue and Whites, so only 2 heavy losses and 2 huge West Adelaide wins will strip them of that title (although City were presented with the trophy and pennant last week).

However that doesn’t mean that there is nothing to play for in this traditional rivalry match. MUWFC are currently sitting in 5th position on the WNPL ladder, and (at the time of writing) only 1 point outside of 4th spot and a Finals position.

MUWFC face both of the Top 2 sides in the Final two weeks of the regular season, and desperately need a result in both to have any chance of clinching that last Finals spot.

The previous matches in the League this season have ended in 6-0 and 4-2 losses, as well as a 3-0 loss in the Women’s Premier/Division 1 Cup Semi Final, so MUWFC will have an added want to get something from City in 2019.

Adelaide City’s strikeforce of Chelsie Dawber (27 goals) Daniela Di Bartolo (17 goals), Yuka Sasaki (14 goals) and Tiarn Powell (11 goals) have been a handful for every defence they’ve come up against, and you could expect the same in this match. MUWFC will need to be on top form to keep these 4 players at bay.

Chrissy Panagaris (15 goals) has been the main threat for MUWFC in the front third, and will likely be the one to really help MUWFC to a result. Georgie Henderson has been great in midfield since coming into the squad, and will go a long way to helping pinch a result as well with her industrious work rate.

With both MUWFC and MetroStars looking to claim wins to give themselves a chance at playing Finals football, this double header really isn’t one that you want to miss.
