Round 21 Preview: MUWFC vs Adelaide City

For the 4th year in a row, it comes down to the Final Round of the regular season in an MUWFC vs Adelaide City match to determine who will finish 1st and be crowned WNPL SA Premiers.

In what Paul Marcuccitti from the Soccer on 531 radio show dubbed “The Classic” against West Adelaide last week, our MUWFC ladies came away with a 2-0 win. Stella Rigon continued her scintillating form, turning from scorer to provider with 2 assists, after scoring her maiden MUWFC hat-trick the week before. Nicole Calder headed home the first from a pinpoint corner, while Rachael Quigley headed home the second from another set piece to score her 14th goal of the season.

Adelaide City had a comfortable 3-0 win over Salisbury Inter last week, with Daniela Di Bartolo bagging a double, and Chelsie Dawber getting on the scoresheet as well.

Both defences will be up for a tough day, with the top 6 goalscorers in the WNPL all coming from either MUWFC or Adelaide City. Chrissy Panagaris (27 goals), Rachael Quigley (14) and Stella Rigon (10) have all been in great form for MUWFC all season, and will be a handful, while for the Black and Whites Daniela Di Bartolo (20), Tiarn Powell (16) and Chelsie Dawber (13) have all been in good form of late.

With MUWFC only requiring a draw to become Premiers, City will likely look to attack earlier and the game may open up as the Black and Whites chase a winning goal. However MUWFC aren’t the type of team to sit back and not attack. This match is set up to be an absolute cracker!

In a match that will gain statewide interest and a huge crowd, this is certainly a match that you do not want to miss. Neither team will give an inch, and will want to get one up heading into the Finals Series.

Dress in your Metro attire and get along to TK Shutter Reserve before 1:00pm on Saturday and witness what is bound to be another classic MUWFC vs Adelaide City match, with the double-header mens NPL match between MetroStars and Adelaide City kicking off at 3:00pm straight after our WNPL match.

MUWFC’s WNPL Reserves team clinched the Premiership last Sunday, with a 2-2 draw to West Adelaide. The girls thought that, at worst, a draw against Adelaide City in the last round would be required. But then news filtered through that Adelaide City had lost to Salisbury Inter, therefore meaning that the girls have an unassailable 6 point buffer over the 2nd placed City with just 1 game remaining. Congratulations to MUWFC’s Reserves players and coaching staff on a wonderful achievement thus far, becoming WNPL Reserves Premiers and remaining undefeated in 2018 to this point, however with the Cup Final on Friday August 10, followed by the Finals Series, there is more silverware there for the taking!
