Round 9 Preview: MUWFC vs. Adelaide City

Round 9 of the 2018 WNPL sees the biggest rivalry in South Australian women’s football for the 2nd time this season, with MUWFC hosting Adelaide City at VALO Football Centre.

With the two sides occupying 2 of the top 3 spots on the WNPL ladder, this match, although only just into the 2nd third of the season, could have massive implications on where the sides will finish after the 21 Rounds as they head into Finals.

A win for MUWFC this week would see the gap between MUWFC, West Adelaide and Adelaide City shrink to just 1 solitary point, while a win for the Black and Whites would see the gap between the 2 sides sit at 7 points, which at this point in the season is a long way back.

MUWFC saw off Top 4 hopeful Adelaide University last Friday night in a pulsating 2-1 victory in which Laura Stockdale scored a technically perfect volley from the edge of the 18 yard box in just the 4th minute, and Donna Cockayne add a second in the 22nd minute, before Uni managed to pull a goal back in the 2nd half.

Adelaide City easily put away WNPL strugglers Cumberland United last week 6-1, with Chelsea Dawber and Daniela Di Bartolo both scoring a double, while Georgia Campagnale and Captain Tiarn Powell both managed to get on the scoresheet as well.

After this season’s first game between the two sides ended in a 4-2 win to Adelaide City, MUWFC will be looking to return the favour and have a big win this time around.

With so much on the line in terms of ladder positions, this game promises to be one of the most entertaining games of the season, as the two rivals lock horns and will both be desperate to take home 3 points.
