WNPL Reserves Qualifying Final Preview: MUWFC vs West Adelaide

It’s Finals time! Our WNPL Reserves team have played 24 games this season, and have gone 24 games undefeated, taking home the WNPL Reserves Premiership, as well as the Women’s Premier and State Reserves Cup Competition along the way. But that all means nothing if our girls can’t keep that form going into the WNPL Finals. Everyone remembers the Champions… The Grand Final winner. So now, 3 weeks of hard work begin to claim the Championship.

MUWFC face the Reserves biggest rivals, West Adelaide, in what will be a rough, tough match that is not for the faint hearted. This will be the 5th time the teams have met in 2018. Back in Round 6, it was an epic 3-3 draw in which we scored 3 goals in the last 8 minutes to snatch a draw. Round 14 saw a 6-3 MUWFC win at Lindblom Park. After conceding 2 goals in the first 3 minutes, our girls kicked into gear and ran away with it. Round 20 was another draw, this time 2-2 on a cold day at Park 27B, however, it was also the day that our MUWFC girls were confirmed as Premiers. And just last week, in the Cup Final, an epic. 1-1 after Extra Time, and the dreaded penalty shootout to decide the whole competition. MUWFC goalkeeper Esther Toth pulled off a remarkable save on West Adelaide’s 8th penalty, before Casey Tripodi-Elliott stepped up and converted the winning penalty, to send the players and massive crowd into a mass celebation.

West Adelaide will come out hard and will not want to lose after last weeks shootout, and have danger players all over the park who could break the game open.

However our MUWFC ladies also have players who can break a game open. Roxy Dodd is always dangerous in the front third, 16 year old young gun Georgia Henderson rarely fails in midfield and runs her heart out for 90 minutes week in, week out. While Zoe Hammond can change the game with 1 kick of the football from her set pieces. Mirella Scalzi, who was arguably the best player on the pitch in the Cup Final last week, will be looking for another performance like last week and to keep Esther Toth quiet in the MUWFC goal.

Dress warm, bring your voices, and help our Reserves girls over the line and straight to the Grand Final!
